NOVA Annandale Campus
Student Art Show 2020
Online
Welcome to NVCC (Northern Virginia Community College) Annandale Campus's annual
Student Art Show! Normally, we hold our exhibition at our campus galleries,
but due to changes caused by COVID-19, we displayed the show, in its entirety, online!
The artwork in this site includes pieces by current NOVA Annandale students from each of the following disciplines: 2D & 3D Design, Ceramics, Sculpture, Painting & Watercolor, Drawing,
& Photography & Digital Media. Our Juror this year is NOVA Manassas Painting Professor,
Matt Pinney. Awards will be given out for each of the categories.
Congratulations to all participating Students!
Please use the navigation menu to see the artwork from each discipline. If you are viewing the gallery on your phone, the menu will show at the top of your screen.
Awards for the show will be announced Monday, April 27th. Please visit this website and our new department Instagram page @AnnandaleArtsNova for more details about the awards announcements.
Juror Statement & Prizes
I am extremely honored to have been asked to be the juror for the 2020 Student Art Show for the students at the Annandale Campus. As a professor at the Manassas campus it is great to see such strong work and to know that the Arts are thriving across the Northern Virginia Community College. Before moving to the Manassas campus 5 years ago, I taught at Annandale and it retains a special place in my memory as the beginning of my career as a Professor.
With the incredible challenges faced by our communities during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are reminded by how important the Arts are in bringing us together and for giving us strength in difficult times (not to mention entertainment). As hard as this has been to not be able to meet in person with my fellow artists in class, I am heartened by the dedication and skill that the students have continued to demonstrate in their work.
The broad range of styles and universal strength of the submissions has shown how many of the artists, whether they won an award or not, are deserving of recognition. All of these artists have proven they have the courage to put themselves out there, and share their ideas and hard won accomplishments. There are many pieces included that I would have liked to see in person and spend more time with before making my final decisions. Many of the artists created work both personal and political which could not be more important in making the physical distance imposed on us feel a little bit less of a burden.
Thank you for all of your excellent submissions and for having me as your juror. Congratulations to all of you.
